Located in the heart of Alto Alentejo province, next to the beautiful town of Cabeco de Vide, the Estalagem is surrounded by mature and peaceful plains and surrounded by luxurious vegetation of the famous sulphurous spas.
For many years different peoples and cultures have chosen this place as their shelter, appreciating and making use of its natural features, unique in the world, leaving here their influence that has remained throughout time.
The Romans promptly learnt about the mineral-medicinal properties of these waters and built the first spas in the area. The foundation of the Charity Home (“Santa Casa da Misericordia”) of Cabeço de Vide in 1498 by Queen D. Leonor, who had a special affection for the town, was one of the most important historical events to take place in the town. It was one of the first 11 Charity Homes founded in Portugal. The importance of this fact justifies the name that has been given to this inn.
Set in the building of the former Train Station of Cabeco de Vide, the Estalagem Rainha Dona Leonor shares the belief that the past and the history are the roots of our cultural identity. Deactivated a few decades ago, the old Train Station is still a valuable piece of heritage with gracious lines. It is a pleasant building where one can see magnificent tile panels depicting rural scenes and other motifs.
The buildings of the inn have recently been subject of renovation and alteration, being transformed into quality facilities, which provide the guests with all the comfort and authenticity.
The Estalagem has a total of 18 bedrooms all having private bathroom, air conditioning, satellite television and telephone. Other facilities and services include bar, lounge and laundry service.
Guests may choose a room or an apartment, enjoy the private swimming pool or the spa, exercise in the gym or on the tennis court, have a good rest or taste the restaurant’s excellent cuisine.
